The distribution of cyclases in retinal photoreceptors of dark- and light-adapted brook trout was studied by means of a cytochemical method (lead precipitation). It confirms earlier reports that retinal photoreceptors contain high levels of cyclic nucleotides, and that cAMP predominates in cones and cGMP in rods.
