The distribution of cyclases in retinal photoreceptors of dark- and light-adapted brook trout was studied by means of a cytochemical method (lead precipitation). It confirms earlier reports that retinal photoreceptors contain high levels of cyclic nucleotides, and that cAMP predominates in cones and cGMP in rods. There is an apparent difference in the level of the cyclases with the adaptive   Photointermediates of visual pigments. Journal of Bioenergetics and Biomembranes , 24 (2), DOI: /BF

Summary. Using autoradiographic and biochemical methods, we have demonstrated the renewal of light-sensitive membranes and photopigments inOctopus visual cells.

After the injection ofOctopus with [3 H]leucine, electron microscope autoradiography revealed an intracellular pathway similar to that in vertebrates for the synthesis and transport of nascent protein from the inner segments to the Molecular Characterization of Visual Pigments in Branchiopoda and the Evolution of Opsins in Arthropoda.
